Foundation Drawing I

Prerequisites: none

Course Description: Drawing I is designed to introduce the student to representational and experimental drawing. The development of perceptual skills through drawing from direct observation and exploration in mark making will be emphasized. A variety of techniques and materials will be employed. Class time will be devoted to hands-on drawing projects supplemented with class discussions and demonstrations.

Course Schedule -
Week 1: Sensitivity and perception exercises. Introduction to gesture, blind contour and modified contour.
Week 2: Introduction to positive/negative space. Complete negative space contour drawing of compiled organic elements.
Week 3: Introduction to value. Begin measured drawing of simplified still-life objects with planar value.
Week 4: Complete drawing of simplified still-life with planar value.
Week 5: Introduction to 2-dimensional Reproduction of Masterwork.
Week 6: Complete 2-dimensional Reproduction of Masterwork.
