About Lori

I am very excited and grateful that you have found us here at the Healing Forest Studio. The Healing Forest Studio is the blossoming effort of myself, Lori Slocomb, and my dear husband, Lucas Klocke. We offer professional, college-grade classes in both drawing and painting. I am very thankful for the opportunity to share with you the gifts and talents that continue to animate, nurture and heal my spirit and body.

My Painting Background

My love relationship with painting began with my grandfather, Bernard Slocomb, and his determination to pass on his love of painting to me, his thirteen year old granddaughter. He lit a spark in me. He showed me that this act of putting paint onto a canvas was worthwhile and I believed him. In 1992, I completed my B.A. in Studio Art from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. I went on in 2002 to complete my M.F.A. in Painting from California State University, Long Beach. From 2000 to 2003 I taught art at the university level in the greater Los Angeles area at California State University, Long Beach; Otis College of Art and Design and Azusa Pacific University. I am very thankful to all my teachers and professors who gave of themselves in my development as an artist and educator.

Joy of Service

After my undergraduate degree, I traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to teach art to underprivileged children for a year spanning 1993 to 1994. This experience brought me to a place where art and healing shared the same space. It was through my students, that I witnessed the vitality and incredible resilience of the human spirit. I saw first hand the truly awesome strength of their spirits to choose generosity and joy in the midst of extreme challenges.

My Life in a Snapshot

Along with the love of painting, nature, travel, spiritual and cultural studies, I like to spend my time visiting in the love of family and friends. I am a lover of good films, books, dance, water parks, dog parks and a good game of Settlers of Catan. And most dear to me is time spent at home in Waukesha, Wisconsin with my husband and our furry clan.
